Lot Essay

Major Harold Bessemer Galloway of Blervie, Moray, D.L., 1867-1915. Educated at Clifton. In 1908 he married Mary Jane Sybil, 3rd daughter of Major Sir William Palliser, C.B., M.P.. Together they had two sons and a daughter. Captain Reserve of Officers, formerly Seaforth Highlanders, served in the Hazara Expedition 1891, South Africa 1901-1902, attached to Lovat's Scouts, and in the first World War 1914 with the 7th Batt. Seaforth Highlanders, killed in action in 1915. This is a posthumous portrait painted for the family home Blervie, Forres, Moray, Scotland.
