Lot Essay

"Jaime Iregui has explored different possibilities in the articulation of art and science. He succeeds in entering, as an artist, into a dialogue with mathematical models, physics and geometry, without broader philosophical approaches and hermetic knowledge eluding him. In recent times Iregui has been decreasing the marked pictorial character of the beginnings of his work to investigate different possibilities of approaching frames and mounts which have taken on a life of their own, the result being shapes neighbouring sculpture. In spite of the sharpness of volume, his recent works do not have an open presence: the base of each work is vertical and flat, leaning against a wall, like paintings that take shape and colour in space. Its volumes worry about problems like the purity of colour and shapes without the minimalist severity and without the sarcasm of those who consider that the history of art has come to its end."
