Lot Essay

We are grateful to Mr. Fred Meijer for confirming the attribution after examining the picture in person (letter 31 May 1999). He dates the picture to the 1660s or early 1670s. The style and the palette of this picture can be compared with that of a similar, slightly smaller one sold at Sotheby's, London, 29 October 1998, lot 86 (17,250).
