We are grateful to Mr. Fred Meijer for the following comment "there is much discussion whether all of these small, rather decorative still life of this type are indeed (fully) autograph works by Jan van Kessel the Elder, and attributions to Jan van Kessel the younger have been suggested without any factual foundation. Jan van Kessel clearly employed a fairly large studio, which produced numerous decorative pieces such as this, for which the concept must have come from van Kessel himself, but for which the execution shows a number of (barely individually discernable) hands."
