Oval box, the cover inset with a slightly domed flecked brown composition plaque decorated with a vase of flowers motif in gold piqu point within a husk, scroll and flowerhead border in the same technique, the base inset with a similarly bordered flat composition plaque, the concave gold sides engraved with scrolling foliage in a pointill technique echoing piqu point, reeded rims, pierced foliate four-colour gold thumbpiece

This is a rare specimen of the revival of the piqu technique popular in Italy and France during the second quarter of the 18th Century.
