Each with sinuous handles and spouts applied at shoulder height, the spout attached to the neck with an s-shaped strut, each cover slightly domed with knop finial, traces of gilt-decoration remaining, one cover restored

Lot Essay

These were probably made for the Near Eastern market and were inspired by Near Eastern metalwork shapes. Kangxi mirror-black versions of these small ewers are also known and similarly have gilt decoration. As on the present examples, the covers of the black ewers have white edges to the rims.
