Circa 1794, blue interlaced L's mark, painter's mark for de Laroche, gilder's mark for Prvost, the cup incised 29, the saucer incised 41
The cup with shallow circular bowl and flaring cylindrical neck, the two linked with upright strap handles, the center of the saucer painted with branches of peaches and plums on the corner of a marble-topped table, the saucer border and cup neck painted with oval panels alternately painted with bouqwuets of cornflowers and pansies reserved between wide shaped rectangula panels alternately painted with scattered pink roses on a gilt seeded ground and garlands of pink roses suspended brom blue bows on a gilt trellis and oeil-de-perdrix ground, the whole between concentric bands of blue beads ons gilt dots on a carmine ground (2)

Lot Essay

The form of the present cup is taken directly from that of antique krater vases. A yellow-ground example painted with neo-classic scrolls is in the collection of the Muse des arts dcoratifs (inv. 31657). Cf. Marcelle Brunet and Tamara Praud, Svres, des Origines nos jours, 1978, fig. 288
