XUANDE FOUR-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE, 16TH CENTURY

The pear-shaped body painted with a band of lotus scroll below an arabesque border at the base of the neck which is further decorated with rose sprigs and babao and bands of keyfret and upright leaves below the galleried mouth rim, with a slender upright spout painted with flames and flowers and attached to the neck with a scrolled strut opposite the curved handle, also painted with flower sprigs, the whole raised on a spreading foot encircled by detached flower sprays, chips, crack--6½in. (16.5cm.) high
