Lot Essay

One of the earliest models, the vase was illustrated in 1898 by A. Russell, ("Grueby Pottery", p. 5) and in the 1901 L'Art Dcoratif III, (p. 23). Grueby's wide-mouth vases were frequently used as the bases for oil lamps by firms such as Tiffany Studios, Duffner & Kimberly, Bigelow and Kennard, as in the present instance.
