The burial ground of Old St. Pancras Church was popular with Roman Catholics on account of St. Pancras being the patron saint of Rome and this particular church having been (so it was believed) the last parish church in England where Mass was said. In 1822 it became the chapel of ease to New St. Pancras Church, built by Henry W. and William Inwood in Upper Woburn Place.
