Lot Essay

Cheyne Walk is on the left, with Cadogan Pier in the centre and Chelsea Suspension Bridge in the distance. A 'stackie' makes its way up river. The Suspension Bridge, designed by Thomas Page, was opened in 1858.

Joseph Paul Pettitt was a landscape painter from Birmingham. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1849 and 1853. His exhibited works included views of the Alps and Savoy, as well as of England and the Thames.
