Lot Essay

Private Angus John Breingan was born in Cape Town in January 1921 and enlisted in the Natal Mounted Rifles at Durban in May 1940, aged 19 years. Posted to Egypt with the 1st Battalion in September 1941, he saw action in Libya and was transferred to the 10th Battalion in May 1943. Breingan was discharged in August 1945.

Private Donald Eric Breingan was born in Cape Town in September 1922 and enlisted in the Natal Mounted Rifles in June 1940, age 17 years. Posted to Egypt in December 1941, he was attached to the 1st South African Irish and later, in Libya, to the 2nd Botha Regiment. He was latterly employed with 29th Company, Q.S.C. in Italy between April 1944 and July 1945. Like his brother, he was discharged in August of the latter year.
