(17 x 12 in.), ON FINE PARCHMENT, intact red paper seal of the United States at left, bold heading at top "The President of the United States of America," beneath which an American Eagle and "E Pluribus Unum" motto fly above billowing clouds, at bottom a large vignette of crossed flags, cannons and other military paraphenalia, accomplished in manuscript, attractively framed in dark brown wood frame with cream-colored mat. Document and frame in fine condition. President Lincoln and Secretary Cameron appoint Frank Guest Smith Second Lieutenant in the Fourth Regiment of Artillery.
