Lot Essay

The form of the base of this teapot is similar to the thire 'Lizonn' but the body of the latter is faceted. Both shapes would seem to always have the loop in the handle terminating in a fish tail. Teapots of this form are often painted with flowers, four examples of which appear in the sales records for October 1752. See Tamara Praud and Antoine d'Albis, La Porcelaine de Vincennes, Paris, 1991, nos. 98 and 125 and Tamara Praud and Antoinette Fa-Hall, Porcelaines de Vincennes, Les Origines de Svres, Grand Palais, Paris, 14 October 1977-16 January 1978, nos. 402 and 403 for a discussion of this form.
