Shooting for the film starring Marilyn Monroe began on 13th September 1954 and the film was released in the USA in June 1955. Tom Ewell was an established Broadway comedian, appearing in the Broadway premire of The Seven Year Itch in November, 1952. Tom Ewell's biography printed in this programme states In the film version of 'Itch', which will not be released before 1956, he shares stellar billing with Marilyn Monroe. Nice work if you can get it... He appears to have had a short break from the Broadway play during 1954-1955 to shoot the film of the play opposite Marilyn Monroe, before returning to the same role on stage.

The vendor attended the play with a friend, spotted Marilyn in the seat in front, and asked her to autograph her programme.
