A French gilt-bronze and porcelain mounted striking mantel clock and garniture, circa 1880
The drum shaped case with scroll sides and surmounted by a group of an eagle attacking a snake, with floral mounts trailing to the sides, the front inset with Svres style porcelain panels painted with flowers and amorini, the porcelain dial with gilt Roman chapters and decorated to the centre with an amorino with attributes, the twin barrel movement with strike on gong, stamped for VINCENTI on the backplate -- 18in. (46cm.) wide; and the pair of four light candelabra en suite, modelled as floral sprays supported by a male and female amorino respectively holding a cup and a scythe, on cylindrical plinths inset to the front with porcelain plaques, with grape and vine supports and toupie feet -- 18in. (46cm.) high; each piece of the garniture on a giltwood plinth, with further ebonised base and under a glass dome (main dome cracked)
