Lot Essay

A member of the Neo Figuración group, along with De la Vega, Noé and Deira, Maccio's recurrent theme is the human figure. Maccio had a particular interest in the human head, which he rendered freely in thick impasto compositions that deformed the features like the paintings of the early 60s, or in a less expressionistic manner like the present painting. In Composition one sees the influence of graphic art, where color and line become the major players in rendering the image.
