Colour-Sergeant Emanuel Lodder was born near Shaftesbury, Dorset in 1827 and entered the Royal Marines at Yeovil in August 1845. Transferring into the R.M.A. in September 1850, he joined H.M.S. Curacoa and was present in operations off the Crimea between 1854-56, finally being discharged as a Colour-Sergeant with 21 years' service in August 1866. Lodder, who settled in Feltham, Middlesex, was one of nine recipients chosen for the award of a 10 Annuity and the M.S.M. in April 1900.
