Lot Essay

The Reverend Stuart Holman Biddlecombe was born in London in the 1880s and educated at North Stockton High School and Middlesborough High School. Training at the Church Missionary Preparatory Institution in 1902 and the Church Missionary College, Islington in 1903, he sailed for Persia in the following year and was stationed at Isfahan. Ordained in 1911, he served as a Chaplain 4th Class in Mesopotamia during the War and was afterwards Archdeacon of Isfahan and Honorary Chaplain to the Bishop in Persia between 1921-26, and an Honorary Chaplain to the Forces during the same period. Returning to England he was appointed Vicar of Kew, 1926-37, and later Rector of Whippingham, Isle of Wight. Biddlecombe died in 1944.
