The Reverend Henry Cecil Hargreaves attended Pembroke College, Cambridge and gained a B.A. in 1911 and a M.A. in 1914. In the Great War he served as a Chaplain to the Forces 4th Class and was Mentioned in Despatches by Lieutenant-General G.F. Milne, C.-in-C. of the British Salonika Force. After the War he became Vicar of St. Mark's, Forest Gate, 1920-27, Chief Chaplain of Summerfield, Birmingham, 1927-37 and Harlow 1937-43, and then Vicar of Lower Amwell in the Diocese of St. Albans.
