The center with a large coat-of-arms for Lambert against drapery in deep pink, gray and white and the rim with the three plumes crest, all within an iron-red and gilt diaper pattern band interrupted by auspicious symbol panels and enclosed by Kakiemon style still-lifes on the rim, the back with four iron-red peonies, mounted with a brass rim for hanging

Lot Essay

From the famous service made for Sir John Lambert (d. 1723), a director of the South Sea company, which displays probably the earliest datable use of rose enamel. See D.S. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, pp. 43 and 206, for a discussion of the commission and the Lambert family.
