by Gregory & Co., London, the bobbin-turned gallery above a moulded cornice and central open section containing a shelf, flanked to either side by panelled parquetry doors centred with Japanese landscape and bird scenes, each enclosing a shelf, raised on spirally reeded supports and with a mirrored back, the projecting lower section with a moulded edge and fluted frieze above a further pair of parquetry and panelled cupboard doors enclosing a further shelf flanked to either side by part glazed and parquetry doors with glazed sides, with four drawers to the base, with scrolled spandrels between fluted uprights, on turned feet, the right centre drawer stamped Gregory & Co. 212 & 214 Regent Street, London and numbered 944 -- 63in. (160cm.) wide

Lot Essay

Charles Gregory moved to Regent Street from Borough High Street in 1861. THe firm specialised in "Artistic Furniture" and employed designers such as Charles Bevan who designed a rosewood suite which was awarded a bronze medal at the 1878 Paris Exhibition.
