An oak armchair, English, late 17th century
The triple panel back profusely carved with stiff-leaf, rosette and whirl detail, the lower twin panels with quatrefoil foliate motifs, the upper panel centred with initials and date R.M. 1664 and below a parquetry toprail with foliate carved scrolling cresting, the accentuated downswept arms with scroll pendant detail to the upper section and supported on ring-turned columns, with solid seat and scrolling friezes, on ring-turned legs joined by square section stretchers
