A Lacquer Portable Writing Box and Stationery Box (Kakesuzuribako)
Early Showa Period (20th Century)
Of rounded rectangular shape fitted with a lower rectangular compartment for paper which pulls out from one short side by means of a silver handle and with an inkstone box below the lid, decorated on the cover in gold and black togidashi and hiramaki-e on a roiro and nashiji ground with a villa and plum tree in flower behind a brush fence, the blossoms of silver foil, additionally ornamented in silver foil with the characters "kimi ga chitose (wishing you long life)", the underside of the lid patterned in gold hiramaki-e with plum florets and petals on a roiro-nuri ground, repeated opposite on the removable utensil tray and lower interior, fitted with a rectangular inkstone lacquered on the edges in fundame, a silver mizuire in the form of a plum floret, two brushes, a paper knife and paper-pricker in lacquer cases matching the rest of the interior, the outer sides of the box roiro and nashiji and the interior of the lower compartment and base roiro-nuri, rims silver
