Lot Essay

In the summer of 1873 Hunt stayed with Ruskin at Brantwood on Lake Coniston. From there he made an excursion to Scotland. Hunt exhibited another watercolour of Loch Maree, lifting of the mists at sunset at the Old Water-Colour Society, Summer 1877, no. 17, probably the one, dated 1876, included in the Humphrey Roberts sale in these Rooms, 21 May 1908.
This view of Loch Maree looks across to Beinn Slioch.
