Lot Essay

Two other pictures from the same set were sold in these Rooms, 9 July 1999, lot 227 (sold £16,100).

Lord William Percy was the son of Henry, 7th Duke of Northumberland. It is uncertain whether the present pictures were amongst those works that he inherited from his father, and that had formerly been housed at Alnwick Castle, Northumberland.
