A COTTON-ON-LINEN HAND TOWEL
MARIA DILLIERS, SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA, DATED 1827
The rectangular plain woven linen ground finished on three sides with fringed overhung border cross-stitched at the top, "Maria Dilliers [trans.] sewed this in the year 1827," followed by an alphabetical register above a horizontal register of cross-stitched red and blue birds and stylized foliage alternating with three horizontal checkered bands, the base embellished with three horizontal registers of red and blue medallions, stylized flower pots, hearts and crowns and birds, all over a fringed base--51½in. x 19in.
