Centering a young couple flanking a candlestand with decorated pot on top, the man offering a bouquet of flowers, all below the inscribed identification, "Mr. Robert Montgomery Wolf, a Son of Mr. Michael Wolf and his wife Susannah Elisabeth, born a Mengel, was born June the 5th in Hains Township, Center County, Pennsylvania and baptised by the Rev. Census records for 1850 show a Michael and Susannah Wolf living in Walker Township, Centre County in that year. Located not far from Hains Township, the family described in this census was headed by a 39 year old laborer, his 33 year old wife, and together they had five children ranging in age from 2 to 8. Although Robert Montgomery Wolf is not listed in this census record, his birth date towards the middle of the year and the consistently staggered ages of the other children in the family suggest that the census may have been taken immediately prior to his birth.
