Lot Essay

This guitar was given to Chips Moman by country star Willie Nelson, after Moman had produced his best-selling LP Always On My Mind in 1982. Nelson played the guitar on that album, as well as on other recording sessions and also during live performances.
Chips Moman produced a series of albums by Willie Nelson in the early 1980s, at a time when Nelson was by far the biggest star on the U.S. country scene. He was also responsible for producing Nelson's collaborations with Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings under the name of 'The Highwaymen'. The two men had been friends since meeting in Nashville at the start of the 1960s.
