Shuttle-shaped gold box, the cover, sides and base with panels of engine-turned horizontal reeding centred with oval reserves of frosted gold chased in four-colour gold with trophies of country life, within laurel and berry borders surmounted by bows in various gold colours, surrounded by trailing foliage chased in four-colour gold, fluted border bands and bright-cut rims

Lot Essay

Barrière struck his mark in January 1763 and the date latter "y" on the present box was in use from 21 July 1762 to 13 July 1763; this must be one of Barrière's first works.
