Crossbanded overall in tulipwood and inlaid with boxwood and ebonised lines, the semi-elliptical hinged top decorated with hung floral garlands from ribbon bows, with a central semi-elliptical grisaille painting of ribbon-tied wands, with an oak-leaf acorn border, enclosing a green baize-lined playing-surface above a panelled frieze decorated with further ribbon-tied foliage, on square tapering legs decorated with hung bell-husks, inscribed in chalk to the underside '53', the polychrome decoration late Victorian
