Attributed to Gillows
Inlaid overall with boxwood and ebonised lines and crossbanded in amaranth, the rectangular top with a portable superstructure with three-quarter gallery and rectangular handle above two short and one long mahogany-lined drawers, the lower section with a fitted frieze drawer on square tapering panelled legs joined by a concave-fronted undertier, on spade feet, the writing-drawer previously with a writing-surface

Lot Essay

This lady's work-table with removable sketch book-tray relates to a 'sheveret' pattern in the 1790 Estimate Sketch Book of Gillows of London and Lancaster (L. Boynton (ed.), Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, fig. 150). A similar table, also with the stretcher-tray, was sold anonymously Sotheby's London, 19 November 1993, lot 103.
