of small size, signed Troughton & Simms London, the telescope with rack and pinion focusing, the lens hood with dust slide, the eyepiece with spider's web adjusters, the two part vertical circles with silvered scales, twin verniers and magnifiers, tangent-screw fine adjustment in the vertical plane, the horizontal circle with enclosed silvered chamfered scale, with two verniers and swing magnifiers (one eyepiece defective), with bubble level, tangent-screw fine adjustment and clamp, on three-screw tripod attachment with staff mounting, trough compass and plummet, in the original mahogany case with leather cover and strap -- 16in. (40.7cm.) wide
