Black lacquer ground; decoration in shell overlay with gold takamaki-e and engraving; compartments black lacquer; shoulders and rims gold lacquer; risers black lacquer with incised lines filled with gold lacquer; signed underneath with a red lacquer seal Masaru; carved lacquer ojime; stagshorn netsuke in the form of a crab
