Robert de Rovin, based in Saint Denis in France, started development on his first motor car in 1946 - a crude, rear-engined microcar with a doorless body which was to become the prototype for an advanced 3CV produced at the beginning of the 1950's.

Unveiled in 1951, the D-4 was arguably the most elegant of all micro- cars, designed with art deco in mind, returning styling to the glorious Thirties. To complement the coachwork it also showed sophistication under the bonnet, with a flat twin cylinder, 462cc, 4-stroke engine which could take its passengers up to 50mph with ease.

This fabulous example has a recorded mileage of 15,000 kilometres (believed to be correct) and is described as being in very-good original condition. The 4-stroke, water-cooled Rovin engine is original and uses the correct Solex carburettor, transmission being through a standard three-speed gearbox with a reverse gear. The one-piece steel body is finished in burgundy and is in excellent condition, complemented with a tan interior and 'art deco' steering wheel. The wheels are the original cast aluminium and the car is believed to be running and driving well.

It is sold with old style French title papers.
