A GREEK BRONZE CHALCIDIAN HELMET
circa 4th-3rd century b.c.
Of hammered sheet, with a flaring neck-guard, the hinged cheek guards each with a single perforation, the arching eye-holes reinforced with in-folded ridges, the edges throughout outlined by rounded strapping attached by iron pins, the eye-holes emphasized above by similar strapping voluted at each end, the front and back with a small loop pinned in place, each joined to a ring, leaf-shaped plates at each side for insertion of plumes, the crown with a cast, forked finial, its medial molding with incised dotted circles
