Greek type 1:146 (text), other types for incidentals. 31 lines. Woodcut headpieces and initials from 2 sets: strapwork and foliate. (First and last leaves lightly stained, small stain in final 2 quires, light marginal stain in I1.8.) Early 19th-century vellum, contents lettered on flat spine. FIRST EDITION of both works by Gaza, EDITIO PRINCEPS of the accompanying grammatical texts, and one of the earliest books printed by Aldus Manutius. With preface by Theoleptus. 16 leaves. - Additions to Apollonius' Syntax (12 lvs. interpolated between F3 and F4, and 4 lvs. interpolated between M1 and M2). Manuscript on paper, written by the monk THEOLEPTUS. Extensive manuscript annotations to the printed text in Greek, also by Theoloeptus.
Aldus himself was aware that the Syntax was defective; the first complete edition did not appear until 1590, edited by F. Sylburge.
