4° (179 x 136mm). Title with engraved portrait and folding flap at bottom margin. With final errata leaf. (Title with several worm holes and upper rule shaved away, title and preliminaries waterstained, some other margins shaved affecting a few headlines and catch-words, D3 with small burn hole at margin, I3v slightly soiled.) Brown morocco by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, spine titled and dated in gilt, g.e. (covers bowed and affected by damp).

FIRST EDITION. According to the claims of the title-page, this work was based on first hand reports by members of Drake's crew, reviewed by Drake himself before his death (in 1596), and enlarged by his surviving nephew and namesake, Sir Francis Drake. Church Catalogue 407A; STC 18544.
