2° (345 x 216mm). Title within engraved historiated border with a portrait of the emperor Ferdinand II and a battle scene at head. (Title defective at fore-margin just touching engraved area, some browning and waterstaining, light worming at inner margins in the second half of the book affects text slightly, without final blank.) CONTEMPORARY BROWN GOATSKIN BY JOHN BATEMAN, flat spine and sides tooled to an overall design of gilt fleurs-de-lys enclosed in roundels, THE ARMS OF JAMES I at centre of covers, gilt edges (spine scuffed at head and with several round wormholes at foot, some wear to extremities, lacks ties, later endpapers). FIRST EDITION of Isthvanfius' comprehensive history of Hungary from the death of Matthias Corvinus in 1490 up to 1606. A second edition appeared in 1685 with the addition of a long account of the siege and relief of Vienna. Brunet VI, 26528.
