Three Large Spanish Folding Knives (Navajas)
The first dated 1860
The first with dated blade etched on each side with scrollwork and an inscription all filled with red pigment, and pierced with a long slot and two heart-shaped holes, the former with a decorative brass insert, pierced and engraved brass handle with horn panels inlaid with twisted brass wire (some losses) and with foil backing overlaid with red gel-paper, and later leather strap; the second and third almost forming a pair, with tapering blades lightly engraved on one side, and engraved brass handles set with white metal escutcheons embossed with portrait busts, sportsmen, flowers, and fruit (one with incomplete locking catch)
