A Rare Combination Hanger And Dagger
Second half of the 17th Century, probably German
With alternative sword and dagger blades each with short threaded tang screwing into the hilt and secured by a sliding catch, the fullered sword blade straight with a curved back-edged point, the forte lightly etched with the figure of a mounted hussar and trophies of arms and drums, the dagger blade straight and single-edged with a long back-edged leaf-shaped point, the hilt of iron hatched with gold overall (gold rubbed) comprising flat quillons vertically recurved at the lobe-shaped tips and a slightly downcurved scallop-shaped central shell, and tapering patterned agate handle with T-shaped top (the latter a composition replacement)
