An Italian Or Spanish Cup-Hilt Rapier
Late 17th Century
With tapering blade of flattened diamond section stamped 'Johannes Bevgel Me Fecit Solingen' in the single fullers at the forte, the ricasso struck with an indistinct mark on each side, iron hilt with long straight quillons with baluster tips, knuckle-guard en suite, cup pierced and chiselled with scrollwork at the edge and centre (some damage) and with narrow turned border, flattened chiselled pommel, and wooden grip bound with copper wire reinforced by vertical iron strips
