Two Iron Prick Spurs
The first 12th Century, the second late 13th/early 14th Century, both probably English
Both in excavated condition, the first with slender downcurved heel-band with figure-eight terminals containing rivets, and heavy goad of quadrangular lozenge shape on a minimal neck; the second for the left foot, with slender downcurved heel-band, the ends terminating respectively in a ring and a vertical slot, the former linked to an iron buckle (incomplete), decorated at intervals with groups of engraved lines, and very short neck with goad of elongated pyramidal shape with a narrow flange at the base
