Sold with a quantity of original documentation, including forwarding letter for a C.-in-C.'s Certificate of Gallantry (dated March,1946); the recipient's Soldier's Service and Pay Book; two 8th Battalion, Rifle Brigade Menus, including an Anniversary 'Normandy Landings' Dinner and several evocative wartime photographs, including scenes from Holland and Germany in 1945.

Sergeant William Charles Frank Hart was born in March 1917 and was a Bank Messenger and K.R.R.C. Territorial prior to being called up for the duration of the Emergency in April 1939. Attending an N.C.O.'s Course in March 1940, he transferred to the Rifle Brigade in August 1944 and qualified as a Daimler Scout Car Driver in May 1944, on the eve of his undoubtedly active tour of France, Holland and Germany with the 8th Battalion. Hart was awarded a C.-in-C.'s Certificate for Gallantry, very probably for some of the incidents mentioned in an accompanying newspaper cutting: 'Again we were presented with a sitting target as a German Staff Car appeared round the bend beneath us. Just as we were sighting on to the Staff Car, however, I noticed with a bit of a shock that a Self-Propelled Gun had crept up behind us and had evidently spotted us. We had just time to fire a burst at the Staff Car, putting it out of action, and move hurriedly away ourselves, before the S.P.G. could range on us ...'
