M.C. London Gazette 9.1.1918 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when F.O.O. He frequently patrolled the trenches, which had been very much damaged, and gained much valuable information otherwise unobtainable. The Observation Post and trenches were constantly under very heavy shell fire. He set a very fine example of fearlessness and did work of the utmost value for a continuous period of several days'.
