D.C.M. London Gazette 30.6.1915 'For conspicuous courage and resource on the night of 10-11 April 1915, while engaged in operations in a mine gallery full of poisonous air, in going to the assistance of a man at the head of the gallery who had been rendered unconscious, and although nearly overcome himself, he dragged him along to the shaft, thereby undoubtedly saving his life'.
