Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton (1874-1922)

JOHN POUND & CO. (manufacturers). Shackleton's 'Solid Leather' brown calf travelling trunk, 24 x 13½ x 36in. (70 x 34.3 x 91.4cm.), the exterior studded with brass bosses, the corners reinforced with thick calf cornerpieces attached with copper rivets, two calf restraining straps, the ends stamped with initials in black 'E.H.S.', the cover similarly lettered 'E.H.SHACKLETON'. The interior canvas-lined with inset canvas-lined tray with leather-topped side compartment, the lid with large leather fitted pocket.

Provenance: Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton (1874-1922), and by descent to the present owner.
