Provenance: Frederick E. Dailey (sale, these rooms, 17 November 1987, part of lot 71).
Fred Dailey served with distinction as the expedition carpenter on Scott's first expedition, was later mentioned in Admiral Beatty's despatch for services in the action off the Dogger Bank, 24 January, 1915 (for which he received the Distinguished Service Cross) and eventually rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He died in 1961. (7)
