A KASHAN BLUE, BLACK AND WHITE GLAZED POTTERY JUG
CENTRAL PERSIA, EARLY 13TH CENTURY
With very slightly waisted cylindrical body, sloping shoulder, slightly flaring cylindrical neck with inturned mouth, simple loop handle on short foot, the white exterior with vertical bands of stylised naskh inscriptions reserved against black, alternating with cobalt-blue bands containing black water-weed motifs, the shoulder with a similar silhouetted inscription, the neck and mouth with two similar bands, minute repaired rim chips, handle restored, otherwise intact, traces of iridescence
