Lot Essay

This bronze displays some unusual characteristics. The sharp aquiline nose and focus on ornately incised borders rendered with beaded rims in strong relief are indicative of Nepalese style, while the more rounded face framed by long pendulous lobes and neatly curled hair is closer to classic Tibetan style. The exquisitely detailed cascading folds worked in high relief at the shoulder are a striking and unique feature.
